Refurbished GP surgery celebrates official opening in true festive spirit

Local residents, staff and doctors at Broad Lane Surgery in Tile Hill celebrated its new look with a family open day including festive refreshments and a children’s entertainer. Josie Spencer, director of operations, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust, cut the ribbon to mark the official opening.

The surgery, formerly run as a single-handed practice but now operated by Assura Coventry, boasts an extra clinical room, improved clinical facilities, disabled toilet, larger waiting area and upgraded offices to help with the smoother running of the surgery.

The waiting room has doubled in size making it spacious and light, the reception area and offices have been upgraded to make a nice pleasant working space for patients and staff alike.

Dr Ian MacDonald, local GP and chair of Assura Coventry which runs the practice, said: “We are delighted that so many local people could join us to celebrate the official opening of our newly refurbished GP practice.

“A significant investment has been made with this new building work creating office space upstairs where there was previously a flat. Downstairs we now have four clinical rooms – two of which are big enough to train registrars.

“We are open until 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as from 9:30am to 1:00pm on Saturdays. New patients are welcome to register with us if they wish to do so.”

Josie Spencer, operations director, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, said: “We provide a wide range of community health services across the city.

“We have been working with Assura Coventry to deliver services from the Broad Lane surgery and Coventry NHS Healthcare and Walk-in Centre for some time now.

“The nurses and health centre staff working together with the GPs at Broad Lane are committed to providing excellent services at Tile Hill for all the people they serve.”

Diane Hitchman, a patient at the Broad Lane Surgery for over 40 years, said: “I have been a patient here for a long time now and the doctors and nurses have always been friendly and helpful despite the sometimes cramped surroundings. I am so glad that all the work has now been finished which has really improved the surgery and made it much more welcoming.”
