Careers in healthcare boosted with apprenticeships

People looking for a career in healthcare will have fantastic opportunities thanks to the apprenticeships being developed within Virgin Care across the country covering clinical, health and care, business administration, leadership and customer service

Apprentices are given training alongside their role allowing them to earn while they learn and develop skills for the future. Apprenticeship opportunities are available to existing colleagues as well as recruiting new starters into roles, while tutors and workplace facilitators are available to help apprentices and guide them through their placement and offer advice throughout their training.

The health and social care provider has also partnered with the University of Derby allowing it to deliver the new Professional Development (Health and Social Care) Foundation Degree. It is a work-based course designed for clinical support staff and care assistants aspiring to become assistant practitioners working in health and social care.

Apprenticeships are being developed around the country where it runs a number of services and at its head offices in Daresbury and London.

To celebrate National Apprenticeships Week, which runs from 6 to 10 March and now in its tenth year, Virgin Care is celebrating the positive impact apprenticeships continue to have on colleagues, services and the wider business.

Jacqui Smart, director of operations at The Learning Enterprise, said: “Healthcare is an area which can seem daunting for a new career but with the apprenticeships we offer people a ladder of opportunity where they are able to learn new skills and qualifications that will help them in the sector while earning and working full-time.

“A chance to be trained on the job gives our colleagues the chance to grow alongside colleagues in their field. This year we will be offering more and more people the chance to join the organisation on an apprenticeship scheme as colleagues across the organisation value their input and skills.”
