Dr Vivienne McVey is a GP by background and is one of the co-founders of Virgin Care (then Assura Medical) having spent more than 20 years championing the value of community services through her various roles across the NHS.
Dr McVey qualified in medicine at the University of Cambridge and began her career in 1986 as a GP in London and Beaconsfield. She went on to become chair of the Professional Executive Committee of her local Primary Care Trust (PCT). Under her leadership, the PCT was among the first to develop Practice Based Commissioning and to introduce new ways of delivering health services in people’s homes and in community venues which improved outcomes and patients’ experiences.
Since 2006, Vivienne has been a key force alongside her co-founders and leadership teams in forming and growing Virgin Care from its original partnerships with GPs through to the full range of primary, community public health and social care services it operates today.
Over the last 13 years, she has taken on various roles through the growth of the organisation – including overseeing clinical quality as Medical Director, our growth as commercial director and most recently has been responsible for our transformation programmes across the country and overall strategy as Chief Strategy Officer.
Dr McVey has also been a member of the Virgin Healthcare Holdings Board since 2011 and became Chief Executive in February 2019.
