“I like the pace of change and the whole ‘can do’ attitude. Virgin Care are a great fit for my personality.”

What’s your role at Virgin Care?

I’m an Advanced Dietitian, Nutrition Support, working in East Staffordshire Improving Lives.

How did you join?

I joined Virgin Care in May 2016 having worked for Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Partnership Trust. The transfer was painless.

What’s your professional background?

I have a BSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics and am a state registered Dietitian. I have been a Dietitian for 27 years and am now doing my masters in Advanced Dietetic practice at Nottingham University. I also lecture part time for Nottingham University.

What’s your role in East Staffs Improvin Lives?

I work 3 days per week as a nutrition support Dietitian in East Staffordshire. My role is to see patients who are identified as high nutritional risk. These are generally frail, elderly, underweight patients.

What are you working on at the moment to help everyone feel the difference?

As part of my masters I am interested in social science and am currently looking at the impact of loneliness on nutritional wellbeing. I am constantly exploring new ways to connect people who eat alone to enable them to find friendship through eating. A lot of my activity is working with the third sector such as Age UK.

How has your role developed since you joined us?

I am the only Dietitian within Virgin Care’s East Staffordshire services at present so I’m asked for high level advice to inform other pathways and work programmes. I am part-clinical and part-advisor. I have also been asked to lead on a care home project in East Staffordshire to scope need and redesign.

What’s the most challenging part of your role?

Being the only Dietitian is extremely hard. Sometimes I miss dietetic conversations. There are advantages though since everyone takes me under their wing and I am well looked after!

How have you felt the difference since you joined?

Yes definitely. Virgin Care are quite clearly focused on the doing part and are free thinkers. Imagination and creativity is encouraged and not restrained.

What do you enjoy most about working for Virgin Care?

I like the pace of change and the whole ‘can do’ attitude. Virgin care are a great fit for my personality.

What would you say to someone considering a role at Virgin Care?

Don’t just consider it. Do it.

What are you most proud of?

Beyond all doubt it is my 3 grown up children and also the fact that I have a full motorbike licence and ride a very loud Yamaha MT07.
