“When I first joined Virgin Care I was a very shy, quiet person. The company and team that I work for have made me so much more confident.  All of my opinions are considered and supported and I cannot thank my team enough for helping me to come out of my shell.”

What’s your role at Virgin Care? Which service do you work in?

I am an Administrator for Virgin Care Sexual Health, North Lincolnshire.

How did you join?

I started at Virgin Care as an Apprentice in 2014. All of the staff was so friendly and helpful. They made me feel part of the team from day one.

What’s your professional background?

Before I started working at Virgin Care I completed my A Levels at college. I studied English, Media, Art and Photography.

What’s your role in North Lincolnshire Sexual Health?

For half of my week I am part of a brilliant reception team. I book in our patients and make sure our clinics are running smoothly. When I am not on reception I am in charge of Chlamydia Screening. I register the screens, process the results and distribute postal kits to our local services. I also take part in the marketing of the service to try and promote us as much as I can.

What are you working on at the moment to help everyone feel the difference?

I enjoy producing marketing materials for the team and received an in-house award in December 2016 for being the most creative and artistic member of staff. I also assist with the chlamydia strategy and marketing plan and thoroughly enjoy researching events that our sexual health service can support i.e. party in the pines, fresher’s fairs at the colleges and health fairs.

I take every patient contact as an opportunity to promote the new virtual hub website www.thesexualhealthhub.co.uk where patients can request postal kits, book online and access written information and video links regarding sexual health and contraception. I feel a valued member of the team and always strive to make a difference.

How has your role developed since you joined us?

When I first started at Virgin Care my main role was to help on reception. A couple of months into my apprenticeship I was trusted to start learning about how the Chlamydia Screening process worked. I became really interested and was happy for this to become one of my main roles.

What’s the most challenging part of your role?

At the moment I am currently working on a Business Administration Level 3 qualification. I completed my Level 2 during my Apprenticeship so had time set aside to complete my work. However I am working on my Level 3 in my own time and I am finding it challenging to get motivated on the weekends!

How have you felt the difference since you joined?

When I first joined Virgin Care I was a very shy, quiet person. The company and team that I work for have made me so much more confident. I was anxious to answer the phone and speak to people on my first day but now I go out of my way to help the patients and engage in conversation. All of my opinions are considered and supported and I cannot thank my team enough for helping me to come out of my shell.

What do you enjoy most about working for Virgin Care?

What I enjoy most about working for Virgin Care is the brilliant and caring team I work with on a daily basis. I am a creative person and enjoy making documents and posters for our service. My colleagues and managers recognise that this is one of my strengths and know that I enjoy that role; therefore they give me all of the creative jobs and let me put my own touch on everything that I create. They are so supportive of everything that I show them and they proudly display it in service.

What would you say to someone considering a role at Virgin Care?

If someone was considering a role at Virgin Care I would say they are a great company to work for. They look after their staff and are always inventing new platforms which help us. They hold a yearly Big Thanks which makes the staff feel very appreciated and proud to work for Virgin Care. It’s nice to see your managers and colleagues receive awards and get recognised for the hard work they do.
